The Administration:
- Continues its election campaign of endless photo-ops.
- Is canceling extending the DC Voucher program.
- Is looking for more scapegoats (in the inner-circle and out of it) to distract from their ineptitude.
- Inventing new powers to coerce and intimidate industry (GM).
- Perpetuate myths that appeal to selected constituencies: man-made global warmingis going to kill us, energy production is unnecessary (but can be made good and cheap without nuclear power or science actually delivering on any new methods to produce energy), washing your hands will keep you safe (hey, it's better than duct tape), etc.
- Says it is torture, but it isn't torture if they really, really need to do it someday.
- Giving all appearances of spreading the wealth around, all the while consolidating wealth into special favors of friends, and giving a blind eye when Congress actually reneges on Obama's promises or questions him.
- Is looking for a new storage facility for enemy combatants, who aren't really enemy combatants anymore, who should be extended habeus corpus rights, but won't because they're enemy combatants who are called that anymore.
- Continues to ignore the build up of our enemies and pseudo-allies (who are laughing at Obama and us) which will engulf us in another world war, but it won't be called that, but is certain the world will be a safer place if we distance our allies and say nice things about our enemies.
- Says that the stimulus is working and that all those indicators (housing starts, unemployment, retail sales, energy prices, etc.) mean just the opposite of what they used to mean, but he inherited the mess (except he didn't).
- Still believes that raising taxes will generate higher revenue, despite the fact that tax revenues are continuing to decline.
Congress:
- Is trying to figure out how to propose new taxes, for new programs that are unconstitutional, and to squeeze more leverage out of previously limited programs (such as TARP).
- Quietly not supporting all of Obama's pet projects (but only those that are certain to lose with voters).
- Is calling for an immediate discussion to find a way to blame Bush.
Although the links will change next week, the news will be the same.
